While kids are incredibly resilient, they’re also not immune from the chaos of the current times. Each age group has been affected by 2020 in different ways, but everyone stands to gain significant benefits from yoga, from enhanced body awareness and self-esteem to emotional regulation and a foundation for healthy habits.

Haven on the Lake is excited to offer two new online classes geared specifically toward young people ages 5-10 ($5) and 10-18 ($7). Classes are free for Haven Revive members’ households. These weekly Haven Online classes, held on Google Meet, help children and teens practice mindfulness, a wonderful coping tool for dealing with challenges and frustrations.

The sessions are both held intentionally on Wednesdays, the less-structured homeschooling day in Howard County. A nice yoga session is the perfect break and energy outlet to look forward to after a morning spent learning, one that also helps to counteract loneliness and anxiety.

Kids’ Yoga, ages 5-10, with Beth MacMullan, 500 RYT

Wednesdays, 11:30-12pm

If you think yoga has to be serious, think again! This playful class is designed to be fun and engaging for little ones, all while teaching yoga poses, breathing, and relaxation exercises to cultivate a calm mind, increase strength and flexibility, improve gross and fine motor skills, improve concentration, and give children the tools to manage stress in their daily lives.

It’s also great for all skill levels, whether your child is totally new to yoga or has taken classes. Another benefit is that if you have multiple kids, they all get to take the class for the price of one…and your pint-sized crew will be nice and relaxed after each session!

Teen Yoga, ages 10-18, with Olga Campora, 500 RYT

Wednesdays, 4:30-5:15pm

Can you remember the intensity of the emotions you felt as a pre-teen and teen, the daily ups and downs and insecurities? Now just briefly imagine that you had an awareness of yoga and meditation, and all the ways these practices promote self-acceptance and inner strength.

At a stage when their social world means everything, it’s a truly tough time for adolescents. Instructor Olga Campora will focus on helping address the situation they’re in and helping young people create a toolbox to use to tap into their zen. Pre-teens and teens will also benefit immensely from learning postures, breathing exercises, mindfulness meditation, and how yoga helps the body, brain, and heart.

Interested in signing up your mini yogi? Classes start September 8. Call Haven on the Lake at 410-715-3020 to register. Students will be emailed a Google Meet link upon registration. Must register at least 25 hours before class. Free for Revive members.

Per the Governor's mandate, masks must be worn at all times in all indoor CA facilities. Masks must also be worn outdoors whenever it is not possible to maintain social distancing. The exception is that masks are not required while swimming and are optional but highly recommended in high-intensity cardio activities. For details and a list of exceptions, please see our Facility Guidelines and FAQs.

Thank you for helping to stop the spread!
