Quiet Your Mind
It may sound counterproductive, but if you’re trying to get out of your head, sometimes it’s best to look within. Haven’s internal energy classes — Meditation, QiGong and tai chi — are designed to generate overall well-being and physical harmony. Studies have also shown that these types of classes can reduce stress and moderate blood pressure.
And the effects of this practice aren’t limited to the short-term. A study conducted by the Department of Neurology at UCLA found that long-time meditators had less gray matter decline than non-meditators. This means that the brain can potentially be better preserved through the regular practice of meditation.
All three internal energy classes at Haven utilize meditation in similar ways and can provide the same types of benefits. One main difference is that a regular meditation class does not typically involve movement, whereas QiGong and tai chi do. Stretch it Out
Along with internal energy classes, Haven offers yoga, aqua and more.
According to the Mayo Clinic, yoga can relieve symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress, and it can also lower blood pressure and heart rate. If you are brand new to yoga or are just looking for the perfect class to help you stretch away what ails you, consider Haven’s Restorative Yoga class or Yoga Basics.
Aqua Yoga is also available in Haven’s movement and relaxation pool. This gentle class is appropriate for everyone, including pregnant women, those recovering from injuries, and participants with arthritis, fibromyalgia, other neurological conditions or weight issues.

An Environment for Healing
Beyond classes and events, Haven offers healing environments: a hot tub, steam bath, sauna, crystal salt therapy room, tropical rain shower, cold plunge, and movement and relaxation pool. Professional kickboxer Keeman Diop said he uses these amenities to soothe muscle aches and hasten recovery.
“I’ve noticed that my muscles recover a lot faster since I’ve been using the healing environments,” he said.
Each healing environment can be beneficial on its own, but enjoying a combination of them (such as the cold plunge, steam bath and sauna, which Diop recommends) enhances these benefits.
Three months after Diop joined Haven, he signed with Lion Fights promotions. He has traveled across the nation and internationally for matches, but he still finds time to decompress at Haven.
“It’s like a home away from home,” he said. “The minute I walk in, I just feel extremely relaxed.”
