Dan was born in San Francisco and has lived all over the world as both an Army brat and as active duty military member himself. He started his career in Special Forces but was wounded in combat in 2003 and now works in the IT field.
He used alternative exercise methods to help rehabilitate himself from those injuries. Still in recovery, Dan earned a degree in exercise science and acquired his Master Fitness Trainer license. He discovered yoga in 2010 after moving to Maryland and soon fell in love with the practice. Through yoga, the symptoms of his post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) began to lessen while his confidence and mindfulness improved.
Dan trains elite athletes and military at Fort Meade and volunteers his time with Wounded Warriors to teach mindfulness and meditation to veterans and their families. He is a Hatha Raja Yoga graduate who holds a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) certification. Dan is excited to help people by showing them how they can overcome physical, mental and emotional barriers.
What is your favorite form of mind body movement or lesson you teach, and why?
Yoga, because it is everything my body and mind needs to function at its absolute best.
What is your favorite song or type of music you listen to when teaching?
It depends on what I’m teaching, but “Lose Yourself” by Eminem is always motivational and gives me a second or fifth wind.
What inspires you?
Watching my daughter grow into a smart, compassionate and loving girl inspires me every day. Knowing that she is learning from watching me, inspires me to be the best person I can be.
What is a quote or mantra that you live by?
“Any excuse is good enough if you’re weak enough to use it.” ~My basic training drill sergeant
What is your haven?
Any yoga studio can be my haven. That’s where I go to be present, to unite my body and my mind in a yogic environment free from judgment, ego, expectations and attachment.
The ideal mix of support and mobility to train strength, balance, endurance, coordination and core stability all at once using your body weight with suspension straps. This class will also fuse movements from other modalities such as yoga, barre, and Pilates.
