Katie found herself teaching group fitness courses almost by accident. As a dancer and dance instructor with a background in tap, jazz, musical theater and hip-hop styles, she started taking group fitness classes to help train and tone her body in a relatable way. She ultimately jumped into leading the courses and has instructed a variety of group fitness classes, including dance jam, barre, and aqua fitness.
Katie has long been dedicated to exercise, though she really found her niche after performing as a Seattle Seahawks cheerleader for two seasons from 2006 to 2008. After moving to Europe with her husband in 2008, then relocating to Maryland with two children in 2011, she decided to try the NFL cheerleader route again and has been a Baltimore Ravens cheerleader since 2015.
In addition to taking care of her children and cheering on the Ravens, she teaches child development classes and children’s gymnastics.
What is your favorite form of mind body movement or lesson you teach, and why?
I am passionate about both teaching and taking barre classes because it makes me feel like I am taking a dance class. I also enjoy the fact that barre produces fast results that contribute to a great physique.
What is your favorite song or type of music you listen to when teaching?
I like to use upbeat, dance music to keep the class — as well as myself — inspired and uplifted . Among my favorite choices are Justin Timberlake, Rhianna, Michael Jackson and Calvin Harris.
What inspires you?
My biggest motivation in life has and continues to be leading a healthy, productive life for myself and my family.
What quote do you live by?
“In the long run, we shape our lives and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.” ~Eleanor Roosevelt.
What is your haven?
I love being outside; it relaxes and reenergizes me. Whether working in the garden, camping with the family, a day at the beach, jogging around the lake or skiing, it’s all fun!
ALL LEVELS. Integrated movements and postures from ballet, Pilates, and yoga lengthen, strengthen, and shape your body. A variety of props such as bands, balls, and weights are used.
