Ling completed her 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) training under Kim Manfredi at Charm City Yoga. She is grateful to all her teachers for sharing the gift of yoga, especially Kim Manfredi, Kathryn Budig, Shiva Rea, Maria Garre, Jason Crandell, Dharma Mittra and Michael Carroll.
She teaches flow yoga, where she emphasizes stability over flexibility and uses different postures to encourage an intimate understanding of proper alignment. Her teaching style is influenced by various yoga styles such as Ashtanga, Hatha, Vinyasa flow, Jivamukti and Iyengar, as well as tai chi, QiGong, martial arts and Budokon. She incorporates many styles from her diverse fitness background into her own classes to add variety. Ling is a cyclist and also teaches spin at Columbia Athletic Club and Aqua Spin at Haven on the Lake.
Ling understands that every person is different and she offers her students the ability to learn from these diversities by acknowledging that yoga is a practice with the self, not against the self or others. Ling guides her students with the goal of creating and maintaining a pain-free body and forming a clear, relaxed mind. She encourages a nonjudgmental environment and consistent practice within the abilities of each individual, allowing for constant change and growth.
Yoga changed Ling’s life; it inspired her to uncover her fears and hesitations, which allowed her to grow and move past them, reaching new undiscovered and unexplored potential. It is her hope that her students will find the same and leave her classes feeling open, calm and energized.
What is your favorite form of mind body movement or lesson you teach, and why?
My favorite fitness form is cycling. I help my students improve cardiovascular health in a low- and high-impact workout, all while achieving toned legs, strengthening the abdominals and building good mental health. In a mind body class setting, riding alongside one another gives students the opportunity to encourage each other — and inspire each other — to reach their goals.
What is your favorite song or type of music you listen to when teaching?
I play different songs in many classes. Barre and spinning classes vary from rock to Latin; yoga music varies from relaxing spa music to Liquid Mind music.
What inspires you?
My students inspire me! I’m inspired by them as I witness their dedication to their practice and when I see them applying the principles of yoga to their daily lives.
What is a quote that you live by?
My favorite quote that I live by in my everyday life is, “May I live this day compassionate of heart, clear in word, gracious in awareness, courageous in thought, generous in love.” ~John O’Donohue
What is your haven?
My haven is to always return to a safe place, to sit, meditate, receive and reconnect.
